Google Business Profile and Maps SEO in Rwanda
A complete, accurate Google Business Profile so nearby customers find you in Search and Maps.
Google Business Profile and Maps SEO sets up, completes and maintains the listing that appears when people search for your business or your type of service on Google Search and Google Maps. It suits any business in Rwanda that serves customers in person: shops, restaurants, hotels, clinics, tour operators, schools and service companies that travel to clients. This page covers the profile itself. Getting your name, address and phone number consistent across other directories is covered by local citations and directory SEO.
What is Google Business Profile optimisation, and who needs it
A Google Business Profile, formerly called Google My Business, is a free listing that shows your name, location or service area, opening hours, phone number, photos, reviews and website link. For searches with a place in mind, such as “pharmacy Kimironko” or “car rental Kigali”, these listings often appear above ordinary website results. Optimisation means making the listing complete, accurate and active, so it can appear for the right searches and give customers what they need to call or visit.
The problem it solves
Many Rwandan businesses have a listing they never created: a customer or Google itself added it, with a wrong pin, an old phone number or no hours. Others have a verified profile that a former employee or agency set up under their own account, so nobody in the business can edit it. Both cost enquiries. Customers who find wrong details simply go to the next listing.
Eligibility comes first
Google only allows profiles for businesses that make in-person contact with customers during their stated hours. You can show your address if customers visit you, or list a service area if you travel to them. Online-only businesses are not eligible. We check this before doing any work, use your real business name without extra keywords, and choose categories that describe what you actually do. Stuffing keywords into the name or inventing locations breaks Google’s guidelines and can get a profile suspended.
What the work involves
- Audit the current listing, duplicates and how you appear for your main searches.
- Claim or set up the profile under an account your organisation owns, with us added as a manager.
- Guide verification through whichever method Google offers your business.
- Complete the profile: primary and secondary categories, services, description, hours, holiday hours, attributes, photos and the website link.
- Set up reviews: a simple way to ask every customer, and a routine for replying.
- Track calls, direction requests and website visits from the listing, and report monthly.
What’s included and what’s not
Included: an eligibility check, profile setup or claim support, verification guidance, category and service selection, the description, photo guidance and upload, a review request and reply routine, duplicate and incorrect listing reports, and monthly performance reporting while the service runs.
Not included: paid Google Ads, professional photography, writing or posting fake reviews (which we refuse), and guarantees of verification or Maps position, which Google alone controls.
Typical timelines and what drives cost
Setting up and completing a profile usually takes a few days of work, but verification and Google’s processing of corrections can add days or weeks that nobody can speed up. Cost depends on the number of locations, whether duplicates need cleaning up, how much content and photography you already have, and whether you want ongoing monthly management or a one-time setup.
What makes a profile perform
Accurate, consistent details, the right primary category, real photos of your premises and work, steady genuine reviews with replies, and a website whose contact details match the profile exactly. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can’t change distance, but a complete profile improves relevance, and reviews and a strong website support prominence.
Common mistakes we see
Adding city names or keywords to the business name. Using a personal account that leaves with an employee. Listing a home address for a service business that should hide it. Different phone numbers on the profile, website and Facebook page. Ignoring reviews, or answering criticism defensively. Never updating hours for public holidays. And paying for services that promise fake reviews or instant top positions, which risk suspension of the whole profile.

Frequently asked questions
Is our business eligible for a Google Business Profile?
Google allows a profile for businesses that make in-person contact with customers during their stated hours, either at a location customers visit or by travelling to them. A shop, clinic, hotel or office qualifies, and so does a plumber or installer who goes to customers. A business that only sells online, with no in-person contact, is not eligible under Google's rules.
Who should own our Google Business Profile?
Your organisation, using an account it controls, such as a shared company Google account rather than one employee's personal account. Agencies and developers should be added as managers, which lets them edit the profile but not remove owners or delete it. We work this way ourselves, so the profile stays yours if you ever change provider.
Can you guarantee our profile gets verified?
No. Google decides how and whether to verify each business, and the method it asks for varies: a video recording, a phone or email code, or another check. We prepare the profile so the details are accurate and consistent, and guide you through whichever method Google offers. Accurate, real information is the best preparation for verification.
Should we ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes, as long as you ask everyone and don't pay or reward them for positive reviews. Google's policies prohibit fake reviews and incentivised reviews. A simple routine, such as a link sent after a completed job, builds a steady flow of genuine reviews. Replying politely to every review, including critical ones, also shows prospective customers that you are attentive.
What if there are duplicate or wrong listings for our business?
Duplicates split your reviews and confuse customers, and wrong details send them to a closed address or dead phone number. We identify duplicates and outdated listings and use Google's own tools to request corrections, merges or removal. Some fixes take time to process, so we track each request until the listing shows the right information.
How do we know whether the profile is bringing customers?
Google's profile performance data shows how many people saw the listing, and how many called, asked for directions or visited the website from it. We combine that with call and form tracking on your site, then report monthly on the searches that triggered your listing and the actions customers took, so you can see the profile's real effect.
Can customers find you on Google today?
Send us your website and the searches you want to appear for. We’ll start with an audit and tell you what to fix first.
